From Booklist
The winemaking Holland family, first introduced in The Best Man (2013), returns in Higgins’ latest Blue Heron romance. Middle sister Honor has been so focused on growing the family business, she hasn’t started her own family. She’s then humiliated when her lifelong friend and occasional hookup partner, Brogan, turns down her misguided marriage proposal. Enter Tom Barlow, a British professor who needs a green card to stay in the country and remain close to his dead fiancée’s son. After a blind date, Honor and Tom impulsively decide to enter a marriage of convenience. Of course, once they’re living together for their sham engagement, their natural chemistry leads to what inconveniently seems like real love. Higgins once again blends sweet romance, quirky humor, and realistic emotion in a story that will keep readers entranced. Fans will also enjoy checking in with Faith and Levi and the other Hollands who make cameo appearances. --Aleksandra Walker

A story with potential, but ruined by another too-desperate heroine
By Word Gal
Okay, so I find myself in somewhat of a dilemma reviewing this book. I adore Kristan Higgins' writing. She tells a wonderful story, she's laugh-out-loud funny, her characters have dimension, her heroes are fantastic--I would go so far as to say she's my favorite author out there today.

Except...(and here's my dilemma) I am so, SO tired of her frantic-to-be-married, emotionally immature heroines. I had high hopes for Honor after reading The Best Man. Unlike Faith, who came across as so needy I wanted to throw the book across the room more than once, Honor seemed smart and sensible. Unfortunately, desperation must run in the Holland family (and many other families in the Higgins fictional universe, since several of her heroines suffer from the same problem), because I couldn't like or identify with Honor either, for the same reason. I love marriage of convenience stories, but I couldn't enjoy it because I was, once again, too busy cringing at Honor's desperation.

I don't want perfect; flaws are what make characters interesting and fun. I just wish Ms. Higgins would write more heroines like Parker Welles from Somebody to Love, my all-time favorite Higgins heroine. Parker was bright, funny, capable, sexy, and (most important) a grown-up, with just the right amount of prickly and neurotic thrown in to make her human. Please, please, Ms. Higgins, give us more Parker-style heroines, instead of these ditzy thirteen-year-olds in heat. I want to love your books again, and to give them five stars without hesitation!

Not quite The Perfect Book but it's Higgins so it's good.
By OLT
(3.5 stars) I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars for this. There are lots of things I like about Higgins' romances. There's the humor, often LOL, the great dialogue, quirky characters, cute animals, nicely-done sexual tension and sex scenes that are hot without being explicit. However, I may be tiring of the Higgins formula to the extent that her stories don't delight me as much as they used to, although I still enjoy reading them and will continue to read them.

Part of the issue I have with the books is that the Higgins heroine doesn't have enough self esteem and can end up doing some cringe-worthy things. Also, the heroine is too often betrayed by a sister or best friend, and the man the h is in love with, whether he be an ex or current love, is stolen away. Of course we all know that this is always for the best; she'll find somebody way better in the book, but still, that betrayal rankles.

This is Higgins' second entry in the Blue Heron wine country series and features Faith's (from The Best Man (Hqn)) sister Honor, the rather stiff-rumped one. The family is all here, with oldest sister Pru still giving us TMI about her sex life with hubby, Grandma Goggy and Grandpa Pops still nastily bickering with each other, and we still have to deal with Faith and Honor's dad's love life, although this time without the inappropriate girlfriends of the previous book. And there's Spike, the endlessly entertaining little dog rescued by Honor.

Honor has just turned 35 and her biological clock is ticking overtime. She has fancied herself in love with longtime friend Brogan (a friend with occasional benefits) and, casually, after sex, suggests they get married. Well, that doesn't work out as planned and the worst thing is that 3 weeks later, Brogan and her best friend Dana get engaged.

That leaves Honor open to the suggestion that she marry Tom Barlow, a respectable Brit whose visa is expiring and who needs to find a way to stay in the U.S. to be near his almost stepson Charlie, whose deceased mother had been Tom's fiancee. Since his mother's death Charlie has been going through a rough patch, hates his grandparents and Tom, is rebellious and sullen and Tom doesn't want to leave Charlie in the hands of his rather uncaring grandparents.

This book, then, is the story of an agreement between Tom and Honor to a marriage of convenience which doesn't turn out to be all that convenient. Tom puts up emotional barriers against Honor, so the reader has to wait patiently for him to see the light. So does Honor, of course, and there are some emotional moments for Honor with regard to Tom and also for Tom and Charlie with regard to their relationship. Personally, I found Tom to be a bit too dense about his feelings for Honor, but there are guys like that.

So it's a good read, but not a perfect one, and I am glad to have read it and will read the next in the series.

Perfectly long
By IndigoRaiyne
This is my first book by Kristan Higgins and I'm not sure if I'll read another one. While the story kept my interest, I felt this book was too long. I would have enjoyed it much more if the focus had been more on the relationship between Tom Barlow and Honor Holland and maybe Tom and his sort of stepson instead of everything.

This is the story of Honor Holland a woman who just turned 35 and heard the ticking of her biological clock. She decides she's going to propose to her longtime friend and hook up, Brogan who she has known since high school. He turns her down. She is sad; sure she's going to turn into a dried up old spinster. A few days later, Brogan turns up engaged to Honor's friend Dana. Dana is claiming to be pregnant and Honor is beside herself.

This is also the story of Tom Barlow. An Englishman who is teaching at the local university who needs a green card in order to stay in the country and stay close to his sort of stepson Charlie. He and Honor are set up by his aunt and her grandmother. They decide a marriage of convenience will suit them both and move in together.

I enjoyed the parts of this book that dealt with Tom and Honor, and even Tom and Charlie, but this book is more than 400 pages and maybe a little less than half deals with this. The rest, in my opinion, was filler. The reader is introduced to all the men Honor tries to date after Brogan (they have no relevance to the story), and her entire family. While I didn't mind her family all that much, there got to be too many people to keep straight and they weren't important to plot advancement.

There were also a lot of scenes I felt could have been removed and it wouldn't have hurt the central story of Tom and Honor; Tom and Charlie. Those two stories would have been enough to carry the book. I don't need to read 15 pages about Honor's grandmother getting her hair done and gossiping about women at the senior center. It adds nothing. Better editing would have made this a better book.

That said; I liked Tom. He became one of my favorite romance heroes. He's British so he has an accent which makes him twice as hot and he had tattoos (I'm glad this is showing up more in the romance genre as I've always liked a man with tattoos.) and he loved a little boy who was not his biological child. I thought he could have done better than Honor, as she came across as slightly bitchy.

Honor I liked a little less than Tom and thought she ended up with better than she deserved. To me, Honor came across as emotionally closed. I was especially bothered by how she would let her dog bite and nip at Tom and become upset with him when he was upset that the dog was biting him hard enough to draw blood. That's not cute; it's not funny and it's certainly not how you would treat someone you're supposed to love.

Overall, this was an OK book. The writing was clear, flowed well and had a touch of humor but the story could have been better. If Harlequin sends me another Kristan Higgins book, I'll put it in the "To Read" pile, but it probably won't be near the top.
