The Trouble with Honor (The Cabot Sisters), by Julia London

Passion and scandal collide in New York Times bestselling author Julia London's brand-new series about four sisters determined to rescue themselves from ruin…

Desperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family's ruin. Upon the earl's death she and her sisters stand to lose the luxury of their grand home—and their place on the pedestal of society—to their stepbrother and his social-climbing fiancée. Forced to act quickly, Honor makes a devil's bargain with the only rogue in London who can seduce her stepbrother's fiancée out of the Cabots' lives for good.

An illegitimate son of a duke, George Easton was born of scandal and grows his fortune through dangerous risks. But now he and Honor are dabbling in a perilous dance of seduction that puts her reputation and his jaded heart on the line. And as unexpected desire threatens to change the rules of their secret game, the stakes may become too high even for a notorious gambler and a determined, free-spirited debutante to handle.

From Booklist
The only thing George Easton hates more than losing is losing to a woman. So when Honor Cabot breezes into one of London’s most notorious gaming hells and relieves George of one hundred pounds, George is, to say the least, not amused. George then can’t believe Honor’s nerve when she later approaches him in the hope that he will help her with a little family problem. Honor wants George to seduce her brother’s fiancée, Monica Hargrove, because she is convinced that once Monica becomes part of the family, Honor and her sisters will have to find a new home. Much to his surprise, George finds himself agreeing to help with her scheme, but he is in for an even bigger shock when he realizes the lady he really wants to seduce is Honor. A delectably sexy hero, an unconventionally savvy heroine, and a completely improper business proposal add up to another winner for ever-versatile London, who with The Trouble with Honor launches an exceptionally entertaining new series centered on the four Cabot sisters. --John Charles

It was missing something. (Spoilers!)
By SandyC
Warning: This review contains spoilers. This book was missing something. I needed more conversation between Honor and George to be convinced that they actually loved each other, as opposed to the sex/love scenes. Honor's plan to separate Monica and Augustine didn't reflect well on her character. In fact, Monica became a more interesting character than Honor, so it was a little frustrating that we didn't see more of her. Also, I know that we're supposed to believe that "true love conquers all", but if Honor had an ounce of sense, she'd think twice before marrying a man who tried to improve his fortunes by gambling so wildly, not just until he lost big, but even after that! I wasn't too impressed that he was trying to win a broken down abbey for her; how were they supposed to fix up and maintain it?! The other finer plot points, such as going to visit George in broad daylight, etc. also detracted from the believability of the story in general. Julia London's books are hit and miss for me; unfortunately, this one is a miss.

Schemes, Secrets, and Romance
By Farrah
A fun historical romance full of schemes and secrets, The Trouble with Honor was a lovely read. I really enjoyed reading this book. The romance, the scheming, the scandal: it was all wonderful.

Honor was a good heroine, though I had my issues with her. On one had, she was feisty, independent, and very loyal to her family. She would do anything to take care of her sisters. On the other hand, she had a tendency to be immature and she acted spoiled several times. She tended to steamroll right over people's feelings in her determination to get what she wanted. Regardless, I still liked her, though she wasn't my favorite heroine.

George was wonderful, for the most part. He was sweet and determined to make the woman he loved happy. He knew his place in society was precarious at best, so he wanted to be sure he could take care of her. His stubbornness was a bit frustrating, particularly when it resulted in Honor being publicly humiliated. But, for the most part, I thought he was sweet.

The romance was great. Honor and George were sweet together, despite both of their stubbornness. And there was a ton of chemistry between them that led to some steamy moments. They were a lovely couple.

The plot was fast paced. I was kept interested the entire way through. There were tons of schemes and antics that kept me entertained, and a few surprises along the way. I really enjoyed the story and I thought the ending was lovely. I'm excited to see what happens next with Grace's story.

The Trouble with Honor was a fantastic historical romance. I really enjoyed reading this wonderful book. Romance lovers, this is a book worth reading.

It was an Honor to read
By NitWitty
Julia London has done it again. She's spun pure historical gold with THE TROUBLE WITH HONOR. It's a fast paced and sensuous read from start to finish. George Easton, a jaded bastard son of an Earl and cousin to the King, as well as a notorious gambler, isn't even aware he’s lost his heart to the daring debutante, Honor Cabot, on their very first meeting.
Through Honor's urging they enter into a dubious scheme to keep Honor's step-brother from marrying a woman who's been her social rival for years. Her soon to be sister-in-law has vowed to move Honor, her three sisters and their ailing mother out of London and into a country estate with only a small stipend to live on once she is married to Honor's step-brother.
It is only a matter of time before Honor's fire melts George's icy exterior and the steam turns to sizzle. They are like magnets and you can feel them draw toward one another when they share the same page. You can't wait for them to touch. And when they touch, you don't want them to stop.
Honor is strong from the start and goes after what she wants. While some would see this as spoiled, I saw her determined to have her own way in a day and age where most women could not.
George lives by his own very disciplined set of standards and though he takes risks with his standing in the Ton he feels the need to protect Honors. Even against her own wishes and his own desires.
If you are wanting to read about a damsel in distress who is waiting to be rescued, this isn't it. However, if you want to read about a fiery heroine who refuses to bow to the whims of society. And if you want to read about a driven man who holds himself apart from a world which barely tolerates his presence. And if you want to read about how this unlikely couple could possibly overcome all of the obstacles which stand in their way of ever truly finding the future they deserve -- then you want to read THIS book.
